Sidney K. Edelman, Ph.D., Program Director

Dr. Sid Edelman is the director of ESP Ultrasound. He is the author of the text Understanding Ultrasound Physics and Ultrasound Physics Quiz Cards. He has been an advisor to the SDMS. He is best known for his ability to teach physics in a way that makes it easy to understand.

Simply put, Dr. Edelman’s students understand ultrasound physics and then go on to pass their physics exams!

OB/GYN

Anne Sandoval, RDMS, RVT, BS
San Francisco, California
Anne Sandoval is the Supervisor and Chief Sonographer of the Ultrasound Department at the University of California San Francisco, where she works with Drs. Roy Filly, Peter Callen, Ruth Goldstein and Vickie Feldstein. Along with a busy workload, the department is directly involved in the University's Fetal Treatment Center (one of only three in the country), which affords Anne the ability to provide interesting and unique insight to many of the obstetrical abnormalities covered in the Ob/Gyn review course. In addition to her clinical and supervisory duties at UCSF, she is Clinical Coordinator for the accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. She also teaches ultrasound and anatomy classes there. Anne holds ARDMS registrations in Ob/Gyn, Abdomen, Vascular Technology and Neurosonology In addition, Anne is the author of the Ob/Gyn quiz cards.

Anne's superior educational techniques combine an interactive approach with warmth, humor and a desire to make learning enjoyable. Her students' success in earning credentials serves as testimony to Anne's exceptional educational skills.

Cyndi Peterson, RDMS, RVT, MPH
Salem, Ohio
Cyndi Peterson is the Program Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Kent State University, Salem Campus. She holds a Master of Public Health from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from Youngstown State. Cyndi has a multidisciplinary background. She holds ARDMS registries in Ob/Gyn, Abdominal, Breast, Neurosonology and Vascular Technology as well as an ARRT registration in Radiography. Cyndi has over 20 years of sonography and maintains an active clinical role as a Research Sonographer at Southwoods Imaging.

Cyndi's academic and clinical responsibilities provide her with remarkable insight into the registry prep arena.

BREAST SONOGRAPHY

Joyce Grube, RDMS, RTR
Columbus, Ohio
Joyce Grube is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the medical sonography program at Kettering College of Medical Arts. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology and a Master of Science in Allied Health Education from The Ohio State University. She is the co-author of the SDMS Review Guidelines for Breast Sonography.

Joyce has a multidisciplinary background as a radiographer, mammographer and sonographer with twelve years of experience as a sonography educator. She holds ARDMS registrations in Breast, Abdominal and Ob/Gyn as well as ARRT registration in Radiology. Joyce is on the Educator's Committee of the SDMS and is on the editorial board of the JDMS. Joyce's clinical and academic experience makes her a leader in ultrasound education in the emerging field of Breast Ultrasound. Her students, past, current and future, benefit from her devotion to and expertise in ultrasound education. Joyce is the author of the Breast Sonography Quiz Cards.

NEUROSONOLOGY

Lisa Schuler, RDMS, RVT
New Orleans, Louisiana
Lisa Schuler is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Instructor for the CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from the University of St. Francis. Lisa has 19 years experience in ultrasound and holds ARDMS registrations in Neurosonology, Abdomen, Ob/Gyn, and Vascular Technology. In addition to her academic responsibilities, Lisa serves in the diagnostic ultrasound arena as a PRN sonographer at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation.

ABDOMINAL SONOGRAPHY

Steve Bernhardt, RDMS, RVT, BS
New Orleans, Louisiana
Steve Bernhardt is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma's CAAHEP accredited Ultrasound Program and is certified in Abdominal, Ob/Gyn and Vascular specialties. For the past 18 years, Steve has practiced ultrasound at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana, and has held supervisory positions in the Radiology Division of Ultrasound Imaging and the Vascular Imaging Division of the Department of Surgery. Steve is the author of the Abdominal Sonography Quiz Cards.

Methods for registry preparation concentrate on focused didactic instruction in conjunction with an all-encompassing image review. The sonographic image review is intended to give the student experience not only with normal anatomy but with a variety of pathologies. After each chapter, a multiple choice review is provided to demonstrate a variety of testing stratagies designed to simulate the challenge of the registry. Steve's registry-bound students claim that his attention to detail give them the competitive edge in earning a RDMS credentials in Abdominal Sonography.

ADULT ECHO

David B. Adams, RDCS, RCVT
Durham, North Carolina
David Adams is actively involved in leading edge echocardiography development at the Duke University Engineering Research Center. David is currently the Secretary for the American Society of Echocardiography, serving on the Executive Board. He is registered in both Adult and Pediatric Echo and has over sixteen years of experience in registry review.

David has authored many publications, including the Adult Echo Digital Loops, Echo Quiz Cards, Adult and Pediatric Echo Video Case Studies. Most importantly, David is known for his ability to teach echocardiography in a practical, informative manner - a technique that pays dividends for his students as they seek the RDCS credential.

PEDIATRIC ECHO

Richard E. Swensson, M.D.
Laguna Beach, California
Dr. Swensson is the Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiology at Long Beach Medical Center/Miller Children's Hospital. He is a practicing pediatric cardiologist who performs and interprets echoes daily. He is renowned for his knowledge of congenital heart disease, as well as his love of teaching. His skills in registry preparation have been developed throughout his many years of practicing, hand-in-hand, with pediatric echocardiographers at the patient bedside. Dr. Swensson co-authored the Pediatric Echo Video Case Studies.

FETAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

Dennis Wood, RDMS, RDCS, BA
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Dennis Wood is the coordinator of fetal cardiology and the fetal heart screening program at the Thomas Jefferson University and a clinical instructor at the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute. Dennis holds ARDMS registrations in Fetal Echocardiography, Pediatric Echocardiography and Ob/Gyn. His busy clinical and teaching responsibilities make Dennis a strong addition to the ESP faculty.

VASCULAR TECHNOLOGY

 
Micky McPharlin, RVT, RN
Detroit, Michigan
Micky McPharlin is the Technical Director of the Clinical Vascular Laboratory at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and Director of the Vascular Technology program at Baker College of Auburn Hill, Michigan. Her active clinical practice, 25 years of experience, and devotion to vascular ultrasound education makes Micky fully qualified to prepare individuals seeking RVT and RVS credentials.
 
Claudia Rumwell RVT, RN
Portland, Oregon
Claudia Rumwell is the Technical Director at the Oregon Health & Science University / Providence Health System Vascular Laboratories in Portland, Or. She is widely known and respected for her extensive experience in vascular diagnostics, education, and facilities operations; having over 25 years of experience in the field.

Claudia and Micky are co-authors of the Vascular Technology Quiz Cards. Both have received the Society of Vascular Ultrasound's Distinguished Service Award, and were awarded the status of Fellow in the SVU. Within registry review circles, they enjoy well-deserved reputations as educators who produce positive results for their students.
